While different kinds of people have different definitions of what the balance is all about, its general premise is quite simple: take control of your schedule so that you can handle both your career and personal life efficiently.

This way, you can enjoy both the tangible and intangibles in life, leading to a more rewarding pursuit of happiness. Millennials especially value work-life balance because it gives them the freedom to do the things they actually love.

Unfortunately, it’s easier said than done, and what initially begins as a fresh take on your professional and personal life can slowly become an arduous task that may leave you more exhausted than ever. No wonder today’s generation of professionals is dubbed as the burned-out generation.

People have become so accustomed to the drama, competition, and prestige of their professional careers that they even crave for it when that shouldn’t be the case. So is there such a thing as work-life balance? Can it really be achieved? Or is it just a figment of an idealist’s imagination?

No matter how often he/she allows you to manage your tasks and schedules, it would not mean a thing if he/she continues to bombard you with responsibilities even when you’re out of the office.

Take note that a single employee cannot change the work culture of the entire office without getting the boss’s approval. But, what if your boss does not believe in work and life balance? In that case, you might as well find the right job that fits your needs elsewhere.

  • Evaluate and take suggestions – Just completed your first month trying to find the right balance between work and play? You can always listen and learn from successful people for feedback. Which areas do you need to work on to improve your schedules and achieve your professional and personal goals?

In such situations, it would be great to just stay at home with the family, relax, and keep relationship bonds strong—all while finishing your work for the day.

Whether you’ve been aiming for work-life balance for the past month or year, the reality is it will always be a work in progress. You have to accept the fact that you cannot put the perfect balance in everything you do, whether it’s for work or family. Make the most out of every opportunity and remind yourself why you’re doing this in the first place.

Achieving work and life balance may be difficult for most people, but if you really want to have it in your life, nothing is stopping you from getting to it. The key to achieving this is flexibility.
